How Did Mom Get That Comforter So Clean?!
There are certain things that our mothers did for us that we are completely unaware of until after we leave home. Once we are on our own and buy one of the best comforter sets available. It may not have ever occurred to you why your down comforter was always so clean and fresh smelling. It wasn’t the comforter fairy who did this for you, it was your mother.
Learn To Do It Like Mom
Now it’s time for you to learn the secret of cleaning your comforter – it is just as important to take care of your bedding. For the best results, you could take your comforter to a dry cleaners and have it done professionally, but you can also accomplish this task at home if you have an appropriately sized washer and dryer. If your comforter will not fit into your washer/dryer unit, you can take it to a commercial laundromat and use one of their over-sized machines.
It is not recommended that you wash your duvet comforter sets more than once a year. They are quite delicate and they will not hold up well to repeated washings. When the time comes, however, wash the item on the gentle cycle and use a mild detergent. You’ll also want to run it through an additional rinse cycle and make sure that you dry it completely. Set the dryer on low, so as not to subject it to too much heat. This will probably require several cycles but is necessary to remove all the dampness so mold does not develop.
One secret to ensuring an even dry, and to make sure the shape remains smooth and not crumpled, is to toss a few tennis balls into the dryer. The bouncing balls will help flatten the surface. It is also recommended that you remove the comforter a few times during the cycle and smooth and fluff it by hand. If your satin comforter is almost dry but not quite, and you don’t want to subject it to more dryer heat, take it home and hang it on a clothes line or spread it out on a clean, flat surface.
